I Will Cling

By Ramone - March 28, 2006

I'd actually thought of this picture or something like it a good while ago, but had never got it right. This time as I ran & clung to the cross, I saw it -- and saw it in color. Jesus is good! He's the place you can run to, where you're accepted, where you can hide, where you can be yourself, where you don't have to be afraid of being rejected.

I was thinking about something a friend said to me about something I'd drawn and it kind of hurt. I know my friend didn't mean it to, but it was hard for me. I realized that nothing of what I've done is really anything, that He is all that matters, and being with Him. I fled to the cross, the one place of rest, the place where I was accepted, the only place I could hold onto, the only place I could cling to.

I had my guitar & songbook on my lap, and I began singing "The Old Rugged Cross"...

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
But I love that old cross, where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it someday for a crown

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine
A wondrous beauty I see
For 'twas on that old cross that You suffered and died
To pardon and sanctify me

So I'll cherish Your old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to Your old rugged cross
And exchange it someday for a crown

And I remembered the words from another worship song, "All My Days",

There is a place where I am accepted
There is a shelter where I am protected
You are my Savior, my true companion
And I will pursue You with reckless abandon

Yeah!! Amen, Jesus.

Comments:
For some reason I clicked on the Spanish version of the hymn, and though I only understand a little, I nearly cry when singing it. Thank You, God. I want to learn Spanish, hehe.

This is very moving and uplifting. Reminds me so much of what I need to remember about Jesus dying for all of us.

Thanks much! The Old Rugged Cross Hymn is one of my favorites. Mom

This reminds me of a poem I wrote a while back:

When I am in need
I will cling to the Blood
Let it trickle down my back,
Saturate my heart
And breathe in my life

When I am in need,
I will lean into the Holy Wind,
Let the Spirit swirl
Leaves of delight
Around me.
