The Potato!

By Ramone - February something, 2008

One night as I was groggily trying to fall asleep, temptation began coming in my mind. God gave me the strength to begin to resist it and speak against it in Jesus' name, and it was a battle. Suddenly the words just came out of my mouth as I rebuked the enemy tempting me --

I put the potato on you in Jesus' name!

It was so funny and random that I just busted up laughing! How weird, crazy, funny and random it seemed! And this is just how I saw it! I was smashing the temptation like you would smash out a cigarette with a potato! Why a potato? I have NO IDEA! It was just funny! I saw myself smashing it with one hand, and then I traded hands and smashed it with the potato in the other hand!

The funny thing is that the utter ridiculous hilarity of it completely pulled me out of the moment of temptation! Praise God! When you're in temptation and staring at it, feeling its power, you sometimes forget how defeated the enemy is! And he seems soooo strong even though he's not. He's just a liar who likes to "roar" as if he's strong. But he's been doomed and de-fanged. Don't believe his silly roaring! Stand in Jesus Christ who is his head and our head -- and you have all authority in Jesus!
Why does the enemy conspire
and his servants plot in vain?

They take their stand
and gather together
against the Lord
and against His anointed children.

"Let us break their bond to Him," they say,
"and throw off their protection."

The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them!!

Then He rebukes them in His anger
and terrifies them in His wrath, saying,

"I have installed My King
in them, My holy people."

I will proclaim the decree of the Lord:
He said to me, "You are My son;
today I have become your Father."

- Psalm 2 (adapted)

Comments:
I probably don't have to say it, but I will just in case: I am not saying this is some "new way of praying" or some new thing to say in prayer that "works better".

It was just something He gave me that night to show me how ridiculously complete His victory is! To show me how ludicrously above the enemy He has put us! And to show me how hilarious is His victory and our victory in Him! The utter funniness of it all snapped the heaviness of the bombardment of temptation.

It should go without saying that this is not some formula or something to "try" or that "should work" when you try it. No, He gave it to me at that time, and the next time temptation comes around, He might remind me of it or He might not. I need to go to Him, not to the words He gave me last time, and not to some "formula" of "what works".

It was not the words or the picture that snapped the power of the temptation in my sight, but rather it was Him and seeing His victory from His hilarious point of view. It is seeing by His sight that we realize how much we are truly overcomers!

When you're in battle, when you're being tempted, when the enemy looks to strong, ask your Father how He sees things! He may show you something like this, He may not. It may be completely different. But whatever He shows you or speaks to you is exactly what You need. He is awesome and He is faithful and He is mighty!
